Interview upcoming director Huan Vu

At the BUT Film Festival we had the chance to interview upcoming director Huan Vu. Huan Vu has made a nice adaptation on Lovecraft's "The Colour out of Space". Vu has made sure all aspects of the story would be maintained but did they had to pay for it, lets ask!

Interview Huan Vu

Q:

How did it all started, with making "Die Farbe"?

A:

Well at first it was supposed to be a student project, but eventually we weren't able to finish the project at school. So we decided to make it on our own.

Q:

How long did overall production take?

A:

The total project took around 3 years

Q:

Why did you choose this story of Lovecraft over all the other stories?

A:

Well of all stories this one intrigued me the most, because of the whole science fiction horror combination. And I also prefer the more psychological aspect of Lovecraft in his books. One other story I really like is The Temple, I think that one is also interesting.

Q:

Why did you decide that the movie had to be black and white? And why the color purple?

A:

Well like I said before we wanted to create a specific atmosphere and we thought that we could do that with the black and white version. That's why we choose the color purple, we did a little research and found out that the color purple is the most mysterious color of them all. Of course the color Red has a more present look but it would take away the whole concept of mystery.

Q:

You choose to use both German and English language in your movie, why?

A:

Well we tried to make it as authentic as possible, we wanted the characters to talk their origin language, the American characters speak English and the Germans speak German.

Q:

What do you think of all the other Lovecraft stories that have been filmed to this date? And do you have favorites?

A:

Well of course I like a lot of Lovecraft stories and movies that came out, but I mostly like the more psychological focuses films. Although I can easily enjoy the more gory movies that came out like necromicon, reanimator etc. And maybe I can make one like that in the future, but we all know good special effects are expensive.

Q:

There is a lot of debate if the story of Lovecraft "in the mouth of madness" is filmable or unfilmable? What do you think about that?

A:

If there is a budget of 300 million it could be possible, hahahaha. I heard that Guillermo del Toro once tried to pull it of the ground but I don't know whether its actual news.

Q:

What are your future plans with filmmaking?

A:

At the moment we are writing again, I am planning to film another Lovecraft story but when this will happen I don't know at this point.

Q:

I would like to thank you for your time and I really enjoyed Die Farbe.

A:

No problem it was nice talking to you and I am looking forward to take a look at your website.
